Mihails Čuļpajevs current projects include Narraboth at the Finnish National opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin, der Fremder in Das Wunder der Heliane at Deutsche Oper Berlin as well, his debut as Adorno in the Simon Boccanegra new production of the Latvian National Opera by stage director Stephen Lawless as well as Alfredo in Traviata.
Born in Riga, accomplished his professional studies in music high school in operatic singing.
His first serious debut was shown as highly funny and acrobatic character in one of the Seregej Prokofjev modern opera – «Love to three oranges» as Truffaldino. In this challenging role, Mihail was able to combine his singing and impressive acrobatic skills giving it all a great taste of amusing acting. Mihail Culpajev was doing his traineeship in Holland, in conservatory of Maastricht and gained great experience participating as a choir member in several opera productions.
His mentors are Axel Everaert (Belgium), Christine Gailite (Latvia) and Margaret Gruzdjeva (Latvia).
Since 2013 he is soloist member at the Latvian National Opera, where performs among others the parts of Adorno Simon Boccanegra, Alfredo Traviata, Truffaldino Love to 3 oranges, Basilio and Don Curzio Le Nozze di Figaro, Charles Das lange Weihnachtsmahl, Il Messaggero Il Trovatore, Aleksejs Valentina, Maestro di Ballo / Edmondo Manon Lescaut, Rolfs Sound of Music, Arlekin (Beppe) Pagliacci, TaminoThe Little Magic Flute, Cīps Putnu Opera, Alfred Die Fledermaus, Malcolm Macbetch, Tamino The Magic Flute, Lensky Onegin, Remendado Carmen, Ernesto Don Pasquale, Steuermann Der Fliegende Holländer.
In 2016 Mihail has been nominated best young artists of the year in Latvia.
