Sandra Janusaitė

Soprano

Born in Lithuania, she studied singing at the Lithuanian Academy of Music (under prof. Vlada Mikštaitė, Jolanta Čiurilaitė and prof. Irena Milkevičiūtė), obtaining a MA Degree in opera and concert performance in 2001. While studying at the academy, she spent a training period at the “Mozarteum” Summer Academy in Salzburg, Austria, under the tutelage of Prof. Lilian Sukis in 1999, and participated in master classes for young singers with Prof. Renatta Scotto at Music Academy Stanislaw Moniuszko, Gdansk, in 2000. Since December 2001 she has been principal soloist with the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, appearing in most of the leading soprano roles on its active repertoire.

In 2004 Ms. Janušaitė received the “Operos Švyturiai“ award in the category of the Opera Hope of the Year. Two years later she created a role of the Woman in the world-premiere of G. Sodeika‘s chamber opera “Winter”. 2007 she went on tour with the LNOBT to the Ravenna Festival in Italy, where she performed Sieglinde in R. Wagner’s opera “Die Walküre”. She also gave a solo concert in El Escorial (Spain) together with the LNOBT’s Orchestra conducted by Robertas Šervenikas.

Ms. Janušaitė performed successfully as guest in the UK and Italy; in 2007 she performed together with the BBC National Symphony Orchestra. The soloist sang at the Latvian National Opera (G. Puccinis s Madama Butterfly, La Boheme), Opera Theatre of Kazan (Madama Butterfly), in Holland. In 2010 S. Janušaitė performed soprano part in S. Gubaidulinas Johannes Passion.

In 2011 at Opernhaus Zürich she sang Rachel in J. F. Halevys La Juive together with tenor Neil Schikoff, as well as Odabella in Attila at Pärnu International Opera Festival. 2012-2013 the singer has been celebrated as Senta at the Lithuanian National Opera as well as for the parts of Tatiana, Desdemona, Sieglinde, Manon Lescaut, Micaela, among o thers.

She also performed soprano parts in G. Verdi, W. A. Mozart and A. Dvorak “Requiem”, G. Rossinis “Stabat Mater”, A. Honeggers “Jeanne d ́Arc au bûcher” (St. Marguerite), G. Mahlers Symphony No. 8 (Second Soprano), etc. During the season 2013-2014 performed among others the parts of Cio Cio San, Gräfin, Jenufa, Micaela, Sieglinde at Aalto Theater Essen. 2014-2015 she will sing as well Rusalka, Turandot, Leonora and Elsa.
