Murat Karhan current and future projects include Calaf in Turandot at the Staatsoper Berlin and Andrea Chenier and Don Jose at Teatro lirico di Cagliari among others. Recent engagements include the parts of Turiddu, Radames and Calaf at Arena di Verona as well as Cavaradossi together with Anna Netrebko, Manrico in the new production at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Pinkerton at Wiener Staatsoper, Alfredo at Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Calaf at Teatro Verdi di Salerno and De Grieux at Bolschoi, Manrico at Arena di Verona, at Regio di Parma, Tosca at Teatro die Firenze, Ismaele at Bayerische Staatsoper and Wiener Staatsoper, De Grieux and Manrico at San Carlo di Napoli. Tenor Murat Karahan is a 2003 graduate of Bilkent University: Department of Music and Performing Arts. That same year he gained admission to the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. He then also began his master’s degree program at Bilkent University, Institution of Music and Performing Arts. In 2005 he traveled to Rome at the invitation of Italian Conductor Marco Berdondini, who served as guest conductor of the Ankara Opera. He successfully completed his Master’s degree in 2005, and was then admitted into the doctorate program.
In 2005 he became a soloist at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. Until 2013 he has performed there the parts of Ottavio, Edgardo, Alfredo, Elvino, Duca di Mantova, Cavaradossi, Rodolfo among others. 2009-2010, Murat Karahan took master classes from Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton at the Academia di Santa Cecilia, where he also studied with Professor Bruno Cagli. In 2010 he received his Doctorate in Musical Arts. 2012 he started to become a regular guest abroad among others at the Latvian National Opera, where he performs many of the leading tenor parts like Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) or Alfredo (La Traviata) with big success. 2014-2015 debuted at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Alfredo, as well as Reims and Limoges as Manrico and sung Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut at the Latvian National Opera.
