Johan Schinkler

Bass

Johan Schinkler studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and has, since then, established himself as a sought after bass singer and actor. He has performed at all the major opera houses in Sweden.
 
At the Gothenburg Opera Johan has performed the title role in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Daland in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman. At Folkoperan he has sung several Mozart roles including Leporello in Peter Stormare’s acclaimed production of Don Giovanni, Figaro in the Marriage of Figaro and Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte as well as Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. 
 
In the Spring of 2007 Johan made his debut at Wermland Opera where he sang Gurnemanz in Parsifal. In the autumn 2007 he sang Arthur in Peter Maxwell-Davies The Lighthouse directed by Mira Bartov and returned to Folkoperan as Kaspar in Linus Fellboms production of Der Freischütz by Weber.
 
Johan sang in the autumn 2008 the role of Colline in Wermland Opera’s highly acclaimed production of La Bohème directed by Peter Konwitschny, which he was also invited to sing at the Oper Leipzig.

Recent engagements includes Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and Mephistopheles in Faust at Folkoperan, Pogner in Die Meistersinger at The Gothenburg Opera and in the spring of 2011 Fafner and Hagen in Wagner’s Ring at Wermland Opera.
 
The season 2011/2012 Johan Schinkler sang the role of Hagen in a new production of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, a role that he also performed with the Gothenburg Symphonic Orchestra under the baton of Kent Nagano.

2013 he participated in the Ring cycle at the Latvian National Opera Riga as Hunding in Die Walküre and Hagen in Götterdämmerung and sung Sarastro at Stockholm opera. 2015 will perform there among other the parts of Coppelius / Lindorf / Miracle / Dappertutto and Timur.
