Tomislav Mužek
Tenor
Croatian tenor Tomislav Mužek is one of the leading lirico-spinto tenors of his generation, acclaimed for the stylistic breadth of his repertoire and the musical intelligence of his interpretations. With an international career spanning over two decades, he has established himself on many of the world’s foremost opera stages, including La Scala in Milan, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Semperoper Dresden, the Berlin State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, the Vienna State Opera, Opernhaus Zürich and the Bayreuth Festival.
Mužek has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Pierre Boulez, Gustavo Dudamel, Myung-Whun Chung, Simone Young, Sebastian Weigle, Ivor Bolton, Manfred Honeck and Oksana Lyniv, among others.
His repertoire reflects a rare combination of lyric refinement and dramatic expansion, ranging from Mozart and bel canto to German Romantic and Wagnerian roles, as well as the Italian lirico-spinto repertoire. Signature roles include Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Faust, Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Erik (Der fliegende Holländer), Lohengrin, Florestan (Fidelio), Don Carlo, and Walther von Stolzing (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg).
A significant recent milestone in his artistic development is his debut as Radamès in Verdi’s Aida in 2026, marking a further consolidation of his position in the core liricospinto Verdi repertoire.
Mužek maintains a particularly strong artistic relationship with the Semperoper Dresden, where he has been a long-standing ensemble member, performing roles such as Rodolfo, the Prince (Rusalka), Stolzing, Don Carlo and Max (Der Freischütz). In recognition of his exceptional contribution to the house over two decades, he was awarded the prestigious Rudolf Häussler Prize by the Semperoper Foundation in 2023.
He is equally in demand as a concert and Lied singer, having appeared at leading venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and in performances of Beethoven’s Missa solemnis with the Berlin Philharmonic under Bernard Haitink.
Born in Germany and raised in Croatia, Mužek studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Academy of Music in Zagreb.
